A 50-year-old Limerick man has died following a three-vehicle collision in Gort on Sunday night.

Timothy Lenihan was returning to Limerick following a weekend in Galway City when the motorcycle he was driving collided with two cars at Glenbrack on the main Gort to Galway road at approximately 3.40pm on Sunday 16 December.

He died instantly at the scene and his body was then taken to University Hospital Galway (UHG). The collision occurred at a sharp bend on the road at what is understood to be an accident black spot. The road was then closed for several hours while a Garda forensic team inspected the scene. The occupants of the other two cars did not receive any serious injuries in the crash.

Mr Lenihan is said to have watched a rugby match with friends in Galway City before setting off for his home in Abbeyfeale in Limerick on Sunday evening. The cause of the crash is unknown at present but Gardaí are investigating the possibility that Mr Lenihan may have suffered a blackout before colliding with the two vehicles near Gort.
