The Galway branch of the Leeds United supporters' club will host a night of entertainment, in Boo Radley's Club at the Eyre Square Hotel on Saturday 24 February in aid of the Galway Hospice. Topping the entertainment bill will be Galway Folk singer Don Stiffe with support from Elvis impersonator Paul Murphy, 'You're a Star' winner Lucia Evans and singer/songwriter Martin Bennett. The fundraiser is in a fancy dress theme and all are encouraged to dress it up for the night. Today FM Breakfast Show presenter Ann-Marie Kelly will judge the competition with the winner receiving a trip for two to Rio de Janeiro or New York. The Galway Hospice provides a wide range of specialist palliative care services, which include home care, inpatient care, day care, bereavement support and education. The home care service, which has been in operation since 1990, currently provides in the region of 4,000 'Hospice at Home' visits every year throughout county Galway, including the Aran Islands. The specialist nurses work in close collaboration with the General Practitioners to support patients and families in their home environment for as long as possible. The day care service provides a blend of clinical, therapeutic and recreational supports for patients, serving as a link between inpatient and community-based services. "Both the home care and day care services are funded entirely by voluntary contributions and events such as this are vital to ensuring the ongoing free availability of services to patients and families for as long as they are needed," said Michael Craig, fundraising manager at Galway Hospice. The hospice also works in partnership with the Western Area HSE, which provides the funding for our 12-bed in patient unit. This enables patients to avail of the care and expertise of the specialist multi-disciplinary team within the inpatient unit at Galway Hospice. |
