The Labour Party's Galway branch has launched its support for a 'yes' vote on the Lisbon Treaty with a canvassing campaign around the city.

The Labour Party in the South Ward is canvassing for support and is reminding every Irish citizen to check they are on the electoral register and make sure they are entitled to vote.

As part of Deputy Michael D Higgins' usual Saturday clinic at the Clybaun Hotel, the party will have the electoral register and forms at the hotel between 10am and 1pm next Saturday, 10 May.

Niall McNelis, an activist with the Labour Party in the south ward, said, "If you are unsure as to whether you are on the register, you can check on www.checktheregister.ie. If you are not on the register, you need to fill out the supplemental register form. This needs to be completed and received by the city or county council before 24 May. We will have these forms at the Clybaun Hotel next Saturday and you can also check the register."

The party is also reminding voters that they may be eligible for a postal vote in case of illness or disability.
