It is full steam ahead for Galway's newest Educate Together national school, which will open in Kilcolgan on 1 September.

This will be the third Educate Together school in Galway, following on from schools in Newcastle and Claregalway. The school will occupy a newly built facility in the heart of Kilcolgan village and will cater to pupils from all over south Co Galway.

Anna Lochmann has been appointed as Principal to the new school. A graduate from Mary Immaculate College in Limerick, Anna joined Wicklow Educate Together where she was promoted to Deputy Principal within the year. Wicklow was still in its early stages at that time and Anna was very involved in the development of the school. A second teacher has also recently been appointed.

The school will cater to Junior and Senior Infants as well as first, second and third class pupils in its first year. Enrolment numbers are strong yet pupil/teacher ratios will not exceed fifteen to one. Low class numbers are particularly beneficial for those starting school for the first time and these low class sizes are a welcome alternative for parents whose children find themselves in classes of thirty or more.

After school services with a number of different recognised childcare facilities in the area are available and interested parents should contact the school for further details. While following the same curriculum as other schools, Educate Together schools place particular emphasis on inclusion and openness. As a multi-denominational school all religions are dealt with equally and children are taught about all major faiths, rather than just one. There is also much greater opportunity for parents to get involved in the running of the school and this is actively encouraged by Educate Together.
