The 2007 Galway Jazz Festival was launched last night in the Hotel

to Sunday 16 September in various venues throughout the city.
This year’s line up includes Roberto Magris Quintet, Benny Lackner Trio, the Ladies of Irish Jazz - Honor Heffernan and Aoife Doyle - Richie Buckley, who is the artist in residence for 2007, Linley Hamilton and Mark McKnight, the Galway Jazz Festival Youth Orchestra, Dylan Rynhart and Sue Brady, Cortisol with Retinol, Nimmo’s Jazz Brunch and David Mackenzie and Josh Johnston.
The festival will also feature musical workshops for children and adults alike, open rehearsals, listening sessions and a festival club at Tosh where The David Lyttle and special guests from the festival will entertain nightly.
The festival is not only about live music but conveys music through film. Three great Jazz films will be shown at Tosh during the week: ‘Soundies, ‘Piano Masters’ and ‘Live At Birdland’. Theses movies will feature rare archive material from the Jazz greats of the 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s.
There will be fringe events running throughout the festival period, many of theses events are free. Included in the line up is a mixture of gypsy jazz, swing music, Latin and the blues, lunch time jazz, guitar sounds and the Galway Jazz Club will play some classic jazz/link and original compositions by Joe O Callaghan.
