HSE West is putting an action plan in place to deal with a backlog of bills at University College Hospital, Galway, which have not been issued for the past six weeks, due to a row over the replacement of staff on maternity and sick leave.
The union IMPACT is understood to have issued a directive instructing
members in the clerical, administrative and financial sections of the
hospital to refuse to carry out the work of absent staff members where
appropriate cover has not been provided.
A
statement from HSE West said, "Approval has recently been received and
recruitment is underway for clerical posts in the finance department in
UCHG. We expect these posts will be filled in the next number of weeks.
In the interim, we have been able to cover maternity leave with the
reconfiguration of posts."
