The Health and Safety Authority is to conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of a pensioner at a farm in Barnaderg over the weekend.

Seventy-six-year-old Billy Fahy died when he fell into a slurry pit on his farm at Peak in Barnaderg on Saturday evening. Gardaí, Tuam Fire Brigade and the Emergency Services rushed to the scene, where the man was pronounced dead. The body of the deceased was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Galway, where a post mortem took place.

A spokesperson for the HSA confirmed to the Galway Independent yesterday that they would be looking into the circumstances surrounding the widower's tragic death, but refused to comment on any details until their investigation is complete.

Meanwhile, the Killererin St. Patrick's Day Parade, which was scheduled for Monday was cancelled as a mark of respect.
