An Health and Safety Authority (HSA) investigation into the circumstances surrounding an industrial accident at the Luimnagh Water Plant has now been completed.  The investigation occurred after a man fell below a metal gangway when the ladder he was standing on gave way. The incident happened two weeks ago on 3 July.

Three specialised units of the fire brigade attended the scene, before the man was brought to University College Hospital Galway (UCHG), where he was assessed for back and neck injuries.

A spokesperson for the HSA said the ladder, which gave way, was part of a new system of three ladders leading to a filter room at the plant. The authority had concerns over the safety of the remaining two ladders in the area following the incident.

However, the HSA said this week they have carried out an investigation and are satisfied with the safety of the remaining two ladders at the site.
