Mayor of Galway, Councillor Tom Costello, Seona Joyce, Cro?, Joe Merrigan and Peter Durcan, both Connacht Rugby and Mary Cunningham, Producer at the launch of the Gala Christmas Cabaret in aid of Cro?, at the Radisson SAS Hotel. The Cabaret will be held at the hotel on Wednesday 5 December.

The Radisson SAS Hotel will host the bash to raise money for the long-running charity, which will be used to fund education, research and the development of cardiac services for the West.

Speaking at the launch of the event, organiser Mary A Cunningham welcomed the recent opening of a cardiac surgery unit at UHG, saying it is a huge boost for the West.

"This is probably the single biggest development in cardiology to take place in the West of Ireland. This is something that Croí has vigorously campaigned for down through the years. The fight against heart disease continues however, as Croí continues to fundraise in support of various education, research and other projects," she said.

This year, Croí has launched a new initiative to raise money, with the introduction of corporate tables at the gala.

"These are tables for ten people, with six bottles of wine and finger food. They cost €1,000, and already there is huge interest in them. For a different Christmas party, why not forego that traditional dinner followed by a loud band and take this much healthier and more enjoyable option instead," added Ms Cunningham.

Tickets for the gala cabaret are available now from Zhivago Records, Shop Street.
