The Galway Entry to the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition 2007 has been revealed as the glove of the future. The Electromagnetic Glove was designed by Robin Flake, Michael Sell and Fionn Croke, all from Gort Community School. It has been designed to help workers in areas like building-construction, factory work, lab-work, car manufacture, precision-work, and many more areas. According to its inventors, the glove can also improve the lives of many disabled people or sufferers of Parkinson's who have difficulties holding objects. "With our glove, they could once again pick up many everyday items and many more if these items were affixed with steel for magnetic attraction. "We have endeavoured to make this glove as safe, strong and useful as possible. It operates on a basic principal: electromagnets attract ferrous metals. The glove is composed of electromagnets mounted on a heat-resistant glove. The electromagnets are powered by a rechargeable battery pack and can be switched on/off by a simple switch so you can easily grab and drop items. The main advantage of our glove over common gloves is of course its ability to securely hold objects - bye-bye gravity!" |
