It's official, the summer is upon us. Summer officially began in the county over the May Bank holiday weekend when there was a noticeable change in temperatures.

Conditions that could be described as 'balmy' swept across the city and county as Galway experienced highs of between 20°C and 22°C.

And, the weather is forecast to stay warm, despite a risk of heavy showers on Thursday and Friday due to humidity, according to a Met Eireann meteorologist.

Today, Wednesday, will be mostly dry and warm again with sunny spells. However, some scattered showers are forecast. There will be high temperatures of between 17° to 21°Celsius, with temperatures a few degrees cooler near the coast.

Thursday will be very warm and humid, with hazy sunshine. However, there is an increasing possibility of some showery rain developing, with a risk of thunder, especially in the west and south. It will be breezy, with moderate to fresh southeasterly winds.

On Friday and Saturday, temperatures will fall back a few degrees. There will be some bright or sunny intervals, but also a little showery rain in places. Sunday will be mainly dry, with sunny spells and light variable winds.
