Galway Gardaí are currently examining the vehicle involved in last week’s raid on a bank in Mervue.

The red Mitsubishi Gallant, registration number 92-CN-750, was driven down the Monivea Road through the roundabout at Moneenageisha and onto College Road at speed following the armed raid at the Bank of Ireland in Mervue Industrial Estate early last Thursday. It was then abandoned by the raiders in the car park of Galway Greyhound track.

A substantial sum of money, believed to be in the region of €50,000, was stolen in the incident. The money was stolen from a Securicor van outside the premises at around 11am by two men wielding a gun, a knife and baseball bat. One security guard is believed to have been superficially injured in the attack.

Galway Garda Sergeant Sean Colleran has said that an incident room has been set up at Mill Street Station. Although there have been no leads as yet, the investigation is ongoing and gardaí have appealed for anyone who may have seen the car to come forward.

“We are currently looking at CCTV evidence from the surrounding area and conducting house to house enquiries. We would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area and seen anything to contact us at the station immediately,” he added.

Anyone with information should contact the incident room at Mill Street Station on 091-538000.
