The Galway Macra na Feirme National Conference Committee has announced that the 2008 National conference will take place in Galway. The National conference is the biggest event on the Macra calendar and will see thousands of Macra members, young farmers from Ireland and young farmer representatives from several other European countries descend on Salthill between 24 and 27 October.

The base for the event will be the Salthill Hotel, with many national finals in certain disciplines taking place at various locations around the county. The event will be launched at the Salthill Hotel on Wednesday 27 August next at 8pm, where the itinerary for the conference will be showcased.

Macra na Feirme was founded in 1944 by Galway man Stephen Cullinan, a rural science teacher. It is a voluntary organisation for young people between the ages of 17 and 35 and consists of a nationwide network of clubs with five key areas of activity: agriculture, sports, travel, public speaking and performing arts and community involvement.
