Galway City is to become home to Ireland's first exclusively gay bar outside Dublin. Club Pi on Shop Street has undergone a €100,000 refurbishment to re-emerge as Twirley's Showbar and Club. The bar and club will open from Monday to Thursday from 5pm to 11.30pm with a late bar and 80's music on Fridays, pop sounds on Saturdays and a drag night on Sundays. It will also be the new home to EDEN, Ireland's premier club night. To celebrate the grand opening this Friday at 9pm, there will be champagne and strawberry reception hosted by the 'Twirley Chassey' winner of the Alternative Miss Ireland in 2004. 'Mr Pussy' aka Alan Anbsy will officially open the event on the night. Commenting on the new bar venture, owner Eamonn Cunniss said, "I am very excited about my new venture. My main aim is to deliver a Cead Míle Fáilte, provide a friendly service, efficient and safe environment for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community of Ireland." Twirley's Showbar and Club is spread over two floors and is described as "fabulous with a stylish sleek design throughout". "After years of being in dives and rented places, there is finally a contemporary gay venue in Galway," said Mr Cunniss. The ground floor is Twirley's bar and club with the top floor being the Diva Lounge. |
