Ticket sales for this year's Galway Race Festival are on a par with those last year, according to Racecourse management. Speaking after the official launch of the festival yesterday, Galway Racecourse Manager, John Moloney said sales were "quite good" thus far but he was dubious as to whether the festival would hit the same numbers enjoyed last year. "Last year we had over 200,000, it's hard to know, we are expecting numbers to be a little down," he said. The summer festival, which will run from Monday 27 July to Sunday 2 August, was officially launched in the g Hotel yesterday with a host of new race sponsors announced. Mr Moloney said he was excited at the prospect of working with the new sponsors that were unveiled at the event. "The launch went very well; we launched some brand new sponsors with 'Galway's Best Hotels Race Day', a group of six hotels that will be sponsoring the event - The Claregalway Hotel, The Days Hotel, The g Hotel, The Meyrick Hotel, The Radisson SAS and the Galway Bay Hotel. It's an exciting new project and I look forward to working with everyone involved," he said. As ever Ladies' Day on Thursday 27 July is sure to rank as the most popular day of the event. With a prize bonanza valued of €13,500, it looks set to maintain its reputation as the most stylish event in the racing calendar. The Best Dressed Lady will receive a one carat diamond solitaire pendant valued at €8,000 and will also receive €2,000 in cash and €2,000 in vouchers. Admission prices to the event will be kept the same as in 2007. Monday, Saturday and Sunday tickets will cost €20, Tuesday through Friday €25 and €30 for Wednesday and Thursday.
