Moylough native and Missionary of the Sacred Heart (MSC), Fr Eamonn Donohoe, last week celebrated the golden jubilee of his ordination. ![]() Pictured (LtoR) at the Missionary of the Sacred Heart (MSC) Jubilee celebrations are MSC Provincial Fr Pat Courtney and Fr Eamonn Donohoe. Fr Donohoe is now a resident of the MSC Spirituality Centre at Rosary Lane, Taylor's Hill, Galway, and was among a group of 14 MSC priests celebrating jubilees. The celebrations took place with family and friends at a concelebrated Mass at the MSC community at Western Road, Cork on the 50th anniversary of his ordination to Moyne Park seminary. A well-travelled minister, after his ordination Fr Donohoe worked in South Africa for eight years before being assigned to the MSC Mission in Venezuela in 1967. He returned in 1978 to become Director of Students at the MSC seminary at Coolarne, near Athenry, and spent six years as curate in Lackagh parish. After some years in Cork, he was appointed to Ballinfoyle parish in Galway. "Looking back on my years of missionary endeavour, the greatest source of joy and fulfilment was witnessing peoples' lives and the life of a whole community being transformed by the power of the Word of God," Fr Eamonn writes in the current edition of the MSC donor newsletter. "We were not insensitive to the needs of the starving and deprived. Thanks to the great generosity of our donors, we were able to provide food, schools, clinics and various workshops. We trust there will be young people to continue the good work," he adds. Encouraging young men to think about the MSC missionary way of life, MSC Provincial, Fr Pat Courtney asked them "to reflect on the calling and mission that MSCs have received and our belief that that mission is relevant and enriching for our times and our world." He invited men thinking about a vocation to the priesthood to contact the MSC Director of Vocations, Fr John Fitzgerald at Western Road, Cork or to visit www.mscireland.com for more information. |
