Galway man Justin McDermott has completed the adidas Irish Runner 5 Mile Challenge in an impressive time of 35 minutes and 10 seconds and is now one step closer to completing the adidas Dublin Marathon in October as part the adidas Impossible Is Nothing Team.

Justin, who is hoping to raise funds for Galway based charity COPE, was happy to achieve his goal of around the 35 minute mark and is looking forward to taking part in the other two races in the series before embarking on the big one in October.

“I set myself a target of 35 minutes, so I was happy enough with my time. I do feel I could have pushed myself more and gotten a better time, but the most important thing was that I paced myself properly, as our team coach Gary Crossan advised,” he said.

The race, which took place in the Dublin’s Phoenix Park, saw two Ryan’s take the men’s and ladies titles.

In the men’s race, veteran runner Gerry Ryan from Galway City Harriers was first across the line to claim the winning spot in 24 minutes and 46 seconds. The women’s race saw Rosemary Ryan of Limerick claim the top spot finishing in 27 minutes 25 seconds followed by last year’s title holder Pauline Curley in 28 minutes 09 seconds.

The adidas Irish Runner 5 Mile Challenge is the first of three races in the
adidas Impossible is Nothing Race Series. The second race, the adidas Frank Duffy 10 Mile, takes place on Saturday 18 August and the last race, the adidas Dublin Half Marathon, takes place on Saturday 22 September.

Further information on all races is available on www.adidasdublinmarathon.ie.
