The man who fatally injured in an air crash on Sunday has been named as 51-year-old Markus Casey, from Salthill in Galway.

Mr Casey was piloting the light aircraft when it went down in a field in Kilmovee in County Mayo on Sunday afternoon. An investigation into the incident is being undertaken by the Air Accident Investigation Unit (AAIU).

Jurgen White of the AAIU said it was far too early to suggest a cause of the accident. "We have left the site in Mayo and have brought the wreckage to Gormanston, where a full examination will begin on Thursday. We hope to be able to find out what happened but that depends on the damage to the engine."

Mr Casey was well respected in aviation circles and operated an aircraft maintenance company at Knock Airport.
