'Single-handed: The Stolen Child', which originally aired in March of this year is back on our TV screens on RTÉ One this New Year's Day. The show, which was filmed on location in Connemara, has more than its Galway filming location to attract Galway viewers. Lead actor Owen McDonnell from Galway is Garda Sergeant Jack Driscoll in the show. The story follows Garda Sergeant Jack Driscoll as he is handed charge of the search for a toddler snatched from his home by his estranged father, Padraig after a countrywide manhunt is wound down. Jack's attempts at tracing the missing two are hampered by strained relations between the distraught young mother Eilish and her in-laws Sarah and Diarmuid. The new local doctor, Maggie Hunter knows more than she's letting on but is bound by patient confidentiality. Meanwhile, a national tribunal into allegations of Gardai corruption has called Jack's father Gerry a former Garda Sergeant, to account. He's running rings around the lawyers until Garda Finbarr Colvin inadvertently drops him in it. Gerry's life is further complicated when an unwanted ghost from the past, Malachy Doran turns up. 'Single-handed: The Stolen Child' is written by Barry Simner and directed by Anthony Byrne. |
