Galway is home to a new website that is dedicated to promoting up and coming bands and musicians by giving them a global platform from which to show their wares. www.LiveWebStars.com is a dedicated live Internet music television channel, said to be the first of its kind worldwide, based around the whole reality television phenomenon. It is the brainchild of Loughrea man Fergus Kennedy and Dunmore man JP Reddington. Together with programmer, Robert Storey from Somerset, the company has developed a site that aims to strike the knockout punch to the faltering giants in the music industry who have struggled to adapt to the new digital age. With the transition to digital television already well under way, LiveWebStars is aiming to be for Internet television, what Technicolor was for cinema in the 1930s. They have had investment from the Galway Enterprise Board and have also been approached by both local and multi-national businesses hoping to jump on the coat tails of this innovative young company. "We see countless programmes on the television, 'Celebrities Go Wild', 'Jigs and Reels', not to mention 'Big Brother' and 'The X Factor'. The running theme seems to be contrived shows with often talentless 'stars'. "LiveWebStars is real life, with real people who just happen to be extremely talented musicians and performers. Our aim is not to create a star from nothing, it is to provide the platform for these people to create their own star," said company co-founder, Fergus Kennedy. The first band to take part in the website is Galway-based rock group 'Wokajo'. Formerly 'Grab the Mike', Wokajo have been playing the pubs and clubs of Galway and beyond for the last couple of years. They have been gathering an original set, which has seen them compared to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Pearl Jam, and are currently working on recording their debut album. |
