Galway company Ward & Burke Ltd has been contracted to provide an improved local water network in Kilkee, Moyasta and surrounding areas.

The Department of Environment Heritage and Local Government and Clare County Council are financing the €9.5 million project, which is expected to take approximately 16 months to complete.

"The West Clare Water Supply Scheme Contract 6 is a very significant project that will cater for the future development needs of Kilkee and surrounding areas," explained Mr Walter Walsh, Senior Engineer, Water Services, Clare County Council.

He continued, "Kilkee Town and surrounding areas continue to experience growth in terms of developments and population. Therefore, it is imperative that this is matched by the provision of important infrastructure such as water services."

Under the terms of the contract, Ward & Burke Ltd will provide a new Booster Station at Blackweir Bridge, lay 23km of water main and provide a new trunk main from Dromelihy Reservoir to Doonaghboy Reservoir and Doonaghboy Reservoir to Kilkee town.
