Minister for Housing, Urban Renewal and Developing areas Batt O'Keeffe has approved funding to the amount of €813, 372 for a voluntary housing project at Rendu Court, Merchant's Road, Galway.

The funding is in respect of the provision of four units of accommodation under the Department's Voluntary Housing Capital Assistance Scheme. The accommodation is being provided by Society of Saint Vincent de Paul in co-operation with Galway City Council and is for allocation to elderly persons.

Welcoming this news, Deputy Frank Fahey said it would allow older people in the Galway city area to live in purpose built accommodation in their own community.
