Householders whose homes were damaged in the pre-Christmas floods have been urged to apply for hardship funding from the Red Cross. The Irish Red Cross have amassed a humanitarian relief fund of almost €1.2 million, which was raised to help the hundreds of families whose home were devastated in the floods last month. The charity wants applications to be submitted by this Friday, 29 January and all householders who suffered flood damage can apply regardless of insurance cover. According to Des Kavanagh of the Irish Red Cross in Galway, the fund will not compensate households for structural damage. "The Irish Red Cross is now accepting applications for humanitarian relief and will be distributing funds accordingly. We encourage members of the public whose households have been affected by the recent flooding to complete and return application forms. "This humanitarian relief fund is not means tested and is independent of any other compensation or assistance received by households," he said. Details of how to apply are available on the Irish Red Cross website on www.redcross.ie or by phoning 01-6424621. |
