A Claregalway motorist was convicted in his absence at Galway District Court this week of driving his car while holding his mobile phone.

Eamon Cahill, Rock Road, Lydican, Claregalway, was also convicted of not having a driving licence and with non display of an insurance disc.

Garda Liam Kelly gave evidence of detecting all of the above offences when he noticed the accused driving while using his mobile phone and stopped his car at Doughiska, on 31 May last.

Noting Cahill was not present in court, Judge Mary Fahy convicted and fined him €150 for holding his mobile phone while driving. She fined him €100 for not having a driving licence and a further €100 for not having an insurance disc displayed on his car.
