Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny is to meet with members of the Claregalway
by-pass action group and the Claregalway Community Development
Association on his Galway West constituency tour this coming Friday.
Mr Kenny is to meet with the groups in the Claregalway Hotel at 9am on Friday morning to discuss the impact of traffic on the lives and businesses of locals living in the area. General election candidate Cllr Fidelma Healy Eames said she will be showing Mr Kenny the thousands of signed postcards asking Fine Gael to make a commitment to the by-pass in their programme for the government. “As it currently stands Claregalway is literally not on the map. It is not recognised in NRA's policy as meeting the criteria for a by-pass since it is not a major inter-urban town or city. This is a ridiculous criteria since towns with far lower average daily traffic, for example Loughrea, have already been by-passed. “It is time this criteria was broadened, so that consideration is also given to villages suffering from huge traffic gridlock like Claregalway with 33,000 cars passing through daily,” she said. Among other stops included on the constituency tour are Galway Airport, GMIT and UCHG. He will also do a walkabout in Eyre Square. |
