Feast of entertainment at Croí Christmas Cabaret E-mail

A tribute to deceased Italian tenor Luciano Pavorotti, award-winning singer Julie Feeney, Trad on the Prom's Maírín Fahy and Chris Kelly, The Guinness Jazz Band and comedian Gerry Mallon are just some of the acts that Galway people have to look forward to as part of this year's Gala Christmas Cabaret in aid of the West of Ireland heart charity, Croí.

The cabaret, which was recentely launched by the Mayor of Galway, Cllr Tom Costello, takes place at the Radisson on Wednesday 5 December and is set to be the best ever, with every musical genre catered for, from classical to modern.

The internationally famous singer, Fr Liam Lawton returns to Ireland following sell-out shows all over the world, while Gavin O Fearraigh, TG4's Ros na Run actor and winner of RT?'s 'Celebrity Jigs and Reels', will perform with dance partner Dearbhla Lennon from Lord of the Dance and Riverdance.

The internationally renowned harpist/singer Annette Griffin, who has hosted her own show at Ashford Castle for a number of years, will also perform on the night. Annette has toured America, Europe and the UK with her music and singing. She has entertained on behalf of the Irish Government, in Hawaii and Mexico.

Galwegian Julie Feeney won Irish Album of the Year at the Choice Music awards in 2006 for her debut album '13 Songs', which received rave reviews in Ireland, the UK and the New York Times. Julie plays nine instruments and sings all of the vocals on the album, which was self-composed, self-produced and self-funded. She has composed instrumental music for the Ulster Orchestra, the 'Crash Ensemble' and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

'Trad on the Prom' is a contemporary Irish show, featuring an electrifying mix of music, song and dance. It showcases the amazing talents of Maírín Fahy, featured soloist with 'Riverdance' and 'The Chieftains', and Chris Kelly. Maírín's fiddle playing has been lauded as amazing and unique. Chris, meanwhile, has recorded and produced many award-winning albums since leaving 'Riverdance', and is one of the main tutors of guitar at the University of Limerick. There will also be special guests joining Maírín and Chris, at the Cabaret.

The Guinness Jazz Band will start off the Cabaret in the foyer, getting everybody in a festive mood, with their usual brilliant performance. Galway-based comedian Gerry Mallon will also entertain guests.

Tango dancers, Enrique and Marion will give their usual brilliant performance, while well-known Galway singers Hildegarde Naughton and Jacqui Kenny will also take part.

The night will also see performances from Paul Neary, head of Galway Swing, Lackagh Church Choir, the Celine Hession School of Dancing, while the final item on the night will be a special tribute to renowned tenor Luciano Pavarotti, with superb Italian Tenor Fabio Stara and Galway tenors Padraic Connaughton and Pat Naughton. The Corbelli String Quartet and Friends will also take part in this tribute, along with Galway Choral Association Choir with conductor/music director Mark Keane.
