A man appeared at Galway District Court on Monday facing five separate charges related to an incident in which he was apprehended driving without a driving licence or insurance.

The counterfeit Lithuanian driving licence being used by Mr Rashfan Shouldabakey, of 1 Bayview Rise, Ballybane, is to be disposed of by the State after a period of 14 days to allow for appeal.

Mr Shouldabakey was charged with a number of offences including driving with a false driver's licence, driving without insurance and giving false information to a garda.

Defence solicitor Valerie Corcoran told the court that her client was aware that what he had done was wrong, and that he facilitated the investigating garda in his enquiries.

Mr Shouldabaky was fined ?800 with two months to pay for driving without a licence, with two additional fines of ?150 for fraudulently using of a counterfeit licence. Judge Aeneas McCarthy took the other offences into consideration in his judgement.
