Community groups in Galway who work with older people can now apply for funding from the Dormant Account Fund 2007, according to Galway West Deputy Frank Fahey.

According to the Fianna Fail TD, the funding is intended to assist older people in staying in their homes for as long as possible.

“More than €2 million is being made available from the Dormant Accounts Fund in 2006 under the Social Disadvantage Category for projects supporting community based services for older people,” he said.

“This funding is intended to provide interventions and supports for community based services to assist older people to continue living in their own homes for as long as they are able. There are specific guidelines as to what groups qualify for the funding and all potential applicants are invited to attend one of the information sessions which will be held in the coming weeks.”

Deputy Fahey is encouraging all local community groups who provide services for older people to apply for the funding.

“Galway groups can attend an information session in the Galway Bay Hotel on Thursday October 4. Alternatively they can contact Pobal at 01-2400762.”

“I would like to encourage all community and voluntary groups who are working to help older people in their communities to apply for this funding,” he added.
