Just one Galway TD, Fianna Fáil's Frank Fahey, has been named in a list of TDs and Senators who employ family members in State-funded jobs.

Following a Freedom of Information request by the Irish Independent, it was revealed that one in five TDs and Senators employ a relative or family member to work as secretarial or parliamentary assistants.

Although these employees are technically civil servants, they lose their job if the TD or Senator is not re-elected.

Fianna Fáil TDs employ 15 family members, while Fine Gael have ten and Labour have five. Sinn Féin, the Green Party and the Progressive Democrats' representatives do not employ any family members, according to the figures.

Deputy Fahey declined to comment when contacted by the Galway Independent yesterday.
