Galway City Museum will open an exhibition of memories and memorabilia to commemorate John F Kennedy's visit to Galway City 45 years ago this Thursday, 3 July at 11am.

Patrick Ryan, the son of Paddy Ryan, who was Galway's Mayor at the time of the visit, and the current Mayor of Galway Pádraig Conneely will officially open the exhibition.

Among the highlights on display is a bronze bust of JFK that was sculpted by James Power (son of Albert Power who sculpted Pádraig ó Conaire's statue). This sculpture, which was made in the year of the President's visit, has never been on display.

Other highlights include rare video footage from the late Derek Bidulph, flags, rare photos, and the freedom of the City book that was signed by JFK.

The exhibition will run until the end of October.
