A 27-year-old man convicted of drunk-driving at Galway District Court on Monday was disqualified for two years and fined €200 by Judge Denis McLoughlin.
Mr Taylor, who had lost three family members in the year preceding the offence, had addiction problems which were exacerbated by the grief he suffered as a result of the deaths of his family members, said Ms Corcoran. Now living in a Simon Community house, Mr Taylor, who plead guilty, was “doing his best to put his life in order”, the court heard. Judge McLoughlin convicted Mr Taylor but imposed the minimum fine of €200, giving him three months to pay with seven days in default. He also disqualified Mr Taylor from driving for two years and one day. The additional charge of dangerous driving was reduced to careless driving and taken into account by the judge in making his decision. |
