Double tragedy on roads E-mail

A 26-year-old Polish national and a 86-year-old Kinvara man died in separate road collisions in the county in the past week.

Gardai at Oranmore are investigating the two-vehicle collision, which occurred at approximately 7am on Saturday on the N18 Galway/Limerick Road at Moneymore, Oranmore, which claimed the life of Nina Buhl.

Two cars were involved in the collision and Ms Buhl, a backseat passenger in one of the cars was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver and other male passenger in the car were taken to UHG but their injuries are not believed to be life threatening. The driver remains under observation in UHG. The male driver of the second car was also taken to UHG where he was treated for minor injuries.

The N18 at Moneymore, was closed while the Garda Forensic Collision Investigators conducted a full examination of the scene, but opened a number of hours later.

Mr Paul Connolly from Kinvara passed away in University Hospital Galway last Friday after he was involved in a collision with a crew-cab in Corker near Gort on Sunday 6 December.

Mr Connolly's funeral took place in St Coleman's Church, Ballinderreen. on Sunday at 11.30am and he was laid to rest afterwards in Mountcross Cemetery.
