Mike Diskin, Managing Director of Galway's Town Hall Theatre, has been
appointed as the Chief Executive of the Lyric Theatre in Belfast.
Mr Diskin will be taking up his new position in the Lyric, which is the
main drama venue in Northern Ireland, in April. He will be over-seeing
the construction of a new theatre, a development which excites him, as
he "will be able to have an impact on the plan"."We will be producing plays in the meantime and a plus for me is that I will be able to experiment with other partnerships and venues," he said. Mr Diskin added, "It's a big move. I was 12 years as Managing Director of the Town Hall Theatre. It's like my baby in a way. It was hugely enjoyable and I'll be very sad to leave. I can still remember the opening day and wondering if anyone would come in. All that day there was a queue out the door. "I'm really appreciative of all the staff over the years. The Galway public are just fabulous; it means we can put a show on every night of the week. I'm looking for a new challenge. It's a very specialised type of profession and jobs like this don't come along too often." |
