Plate Day at this year’s Galway Races saw a minor drop in attendance and betting when compared with last year.

Pleasant weather ensured that Race Week’s first afternoon meeting, held on Wednesday, attracted a crowd just 300 less than seen in 2009. Tote betting was an impressive €970,000, while the bookies turned over €2.4 million.
