County has fewest births outside marriage |

New figures from the CSO have revealed that Co. Galway has the lowest percentage of births outside marriage, at 19.9 per cent. The national average is 28.9 per cent.
Galway City is slightly above the national average, at 33.8 per cent. The figures show the births and deaths for the first quarter of 2007. The average age of first-time mothers in the city was 28.4 years, while county mothers were slightly older at 30.5 years. The average age nationwide for first-time mothers was 28.9 years.
