Galway girl Orla Mellett will soon be back with her Cork Clipper team mates. The stricken yacht has been replaced and will re-enter the race in time to start the leg from Panama to Jamaica.

Currently filling in on the Cape Breton Island team, Orla, whose weekly blog can be found in the Galway Independent, will be reunited with her team mates and their new skipper Hannah Jenner.

The 'Cork 2' yacht has been chartered from a private owner and has already proved its sea-worthiness, with two circumnavigations of the world under her belt.

Clipper will take delivery of the yacht on Saturday 10 April and the team will set to work, applying the Cork livery and installing additional communications systems.

Orla's current crew lead Leg 7 of the Quingdao to San Francisco 85 nautical miles ahead of the Jamaican Lightening Bolt team.

The original Cork entry encountered rocks during the fifth leg from Australia to Singapore and the Cork crew have since been scattered across the various teams.

However, they will now be back in plenty of time and in contention for race honours when the race rolls into Kinsale after crossing the Atlantic in the leg from the Caribbean.
