Concerns have been raised about the “serious lack” of public lighting in Knocknacarra.

City Councillor Donal Lyons has raised the issue with the council “as a matter of urgency” and has highlighted the lack of public lighting on the Ballymoneen, Cappagh and Clybaun Roads in particular.

“For some time I have been making representations to Galway City Council for the provision of additional public lighting in the general Knocknacarra area. There is a serious lack of public lighting on the Ballymoneen, Cappagh and Clybaun Roads. I have placed a number of notice of motions requesting the provision of additional public lighting in these areas as a matter of urgency,” he said.

Meanwhile, Cllr Lyons has welcomed works now being carried out by Galway City Council on the installation of two public lights in the green area between The Rise and Windfield Gardens.

“I am pleased that following my representations funding had been approved in the 2007 Budget for the provision of this public lighting. The provision of these public lights had been highlighted by local residents who had made representations to me requesting the installation of the public lights as a matter of urgency. I am delighted that work is now well underway in the provision of this lighting,” he said.
