Two community-based schemes in Galway have been granted funding under the Community Supports of Older People Scheme.

The St Vincent de Paul conference of St Michael, Ballinasloe has been granted €25,005 while the New Inn ICA, Woodlawn, also in Ballinasloe has been granted €900 towards their works.

Minister Michael Kitt has welcomed the allocations. "These grants are of great benefit to the older community especially in relation to providing funding for initiatives to improve their security and social support. These grants go towards providing security devices such as window and door locks, lighting and smoke alarms along with monitoring alarm systems and interior emergency lighting," he said.
