An Sorcas Beag, the Irish youth circus, will be holding a series of classes throughout January and February. Thursdays see the beginners take centre stage from 4pm to 5.30pm in the Westside Community Centre. The classes are open to young people from eight to 18. An advanced group session will follow from 5.30pm to 7pm. A skill sharing class will be held every Wednesday from 5pm to 7pm in St Josephs Community Centre. Classes are open to everybody and bursaries for low-income families are available. Performances are voluntary at all times and there are many more tasks than being on stage, including light, sound, stagehand, costumes, make up, props- manager, stage manager and front of the house. The project also participates occasionally in Community Events such as the St Patrick's Day Parade or the Mayoral Ball in Galway. The Circus Project also collaborates with other youth circuses around the world and has just received an invitation to a Youth Circus Festival in October 2007 in Berlin - Germany. An Sorcas Beag is a non-competitive activity, which is suitable for every level of skill and talent. For more information, phone 091-762940 or www.galwaycircusproject.com. |
