Claddagh traffic calming measures revised E-mail

A number of public meetings organised by Claddagh residents have culminated in a revision of the plans for the area's proposed traffic calming measures.

The proposal to raise certain surfaces had caused concern among residents with regard to drainage problems and driveways. The proposal to erect railings had also been met with some opposition, and both proposals have now been dropped.

New agreed proposals now include the installation of ramps at various locations including ramps on Father Burke Road, Fairhill Road, St Dominick's Road and Claddagh National School.

However, according to Councillor Catherine Connolly, "proposals to modify various junctions and open road spaces, such as at Father Burke Road, the GTI and Fairhill/Priory Road, are still a major cause of concern particularly in terms of how they will actually operate on the ground."

In relation to these proposals, Councillor Connolly said a further public meeting has been called by the Claddagh Residents Association for Wednesday 9 April.

The engineer in charge of the scheme has agreed to attend the meeting, which Cllr Connolly believes will give residents a chance to raise their concerns in relation to health and safety.
