Galway residents will be able to see the city from a new perspective this week, as the city council has released new detailed aerial photography of the area.

Galway City Council commissioned BKS Surveys Ltd to fly an aerial survey of Galway City last May and the photography generated will be showcased at a seminar to be held today, Wednesday 28 November, at the Radisson SAS Hotel.

The high-resolution aerial photography is also available for viewing on the Galway City Council's interactive Planning Enquiry System at www.galwaycity.ie.

Speaking about the new web-based maps, City Manager Joe MacGrath said that the new pictures would allow residents to see new developments in their local area.

The seminar will have a geospatial theme and will include speakers on 3D Urban Modelling, surveying with Global Positioning Systems, archaeological uses of Lidar data and the benefits of aerial photography in a local authority context.
