Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Éamonn ó Cuív has improved the grant application procedures for the Gaeltacht community and leisure facilities scheme where the total cost of the project is over €500,000.

The new procedure will have three stages - preparation, planning and construction - and each stage will be funded separately. Under this new arrangement, organisations and committees can apply for preparation stage funding to carry out a feasibility study for their proposed development.

The new procedure aims to be easier for customers to use, simplify the application procedures, create more efficient and better administration, be open and transparent and be better value for money for the state. Speaking at the launch of the new developments planned by Cumann Micheál Breathnach in Cois Fharraige, Connemara, Minister ó Cuív said, "The costs associated with the development of Community and Leisure Facilities has increased greatly in recent years. This new process will enable groups to engage in comprehensive planning before they apply for funding for construction works."
