The IT bag of the moment, Anya Hindmarch's reusable shopping bag, 'I'm Not A Plastic Bag' is coming to Galway this July. The hottest bag of the moment will be on sale on Saturday 28 July from 9am in Brown Thomas Galway for €12. Each year, an estimated 500 billion to one trillion plastic bags are consumed worldwide; these then end up in landfills, which take years to break down in landfills. The 'I'm Not A Plastic Bag' is simply giving people an attractive solution to reducing plastic bag use. In 2002, Ireland was the first country to introduce a tax on plastic bags, which resulted in a 90 per cent decrease in plastic bag litter. The levy is seen as one of the most successful anti-littering devices introduced in Ireland and has been copied internationally. It is expected that this bag will be a huge hit with the Irish as a fashionable alternative to the 'bag for life.' Commenting on her innovative design Anya Hindmarch said, "As a luxury fashion brand, we are in a position where we can influence. I can't think of a more positive way to do this than producing a desirable and cost effective alternative to a plastic carrier bag." |
