Cars with ‘for sale’ signs, which are parked illegally in the city, have a hidden message for boy racers.
That’s according to City Councillor Michael Crowe, who has called on the council to tackle the growing problem of illegal roadside car selling. Councillor Crowe told the Galway Independent that some of the cars are not actually for sale but act as information points for boy racers.
The city council is set to crackdown on illegal roadside car selling over the next three weeks. Cllr Crowe said it is a “serious problem” on the Doughiska road, in Roscam and parts of Knocknacarra. Community wardens have been instructed to follow up on the illegally parked cars. If no improvement is made over the next three weeks, the cars could be forcibly removed by being towed, according to the city councillor. “It is a serious problem. There are up to ten cars parked daily on the Doughiska Road with for sale signs. They are parked illegally and I have spoken to the Director of Services Ciaran Hayes about this to see what can be done.
“It is a growing problem and has increased significantly in the last six to 12 months. It is affecting local businesses, residents, children and the cars are a distraction to other drivers. There are serious safety concerns as it is an accident waiting to happen,” concluded Cllr Crowe. |
