A model Claddagh Hooker will be displayed in the Claddagh Basin, this Saturday 27 September. The display is being organised by Baidoirí an Cladaigh, which is currently campaigning to 'Save the Claddagh Hooker' with a view to raising funds for the purchase and restoration of a Claddagh Hooker. The group recently held a fundraising BBQ at Nimmo's Pier and a sponsored walk from Spiddal to Galway. Baidoiri an Cladaigh is not funded or grant aided from any source, and raises all monies used through fundraising. The aim of the committee and club members is to encourage and train the youth of Galway to sail a traditional boat. With the help of the public the group hopes to sail a Claddagh Hooker out to meet the Volvo Ocean Race next May. Any person or business that would like to donate or otherwise assist can contact any of the committee members: Michael Coyne (Chairman); Nicki Dolan (Vice-Chairman); Josephine O'Neill (Secretary); James Croker (Treasurer) or Ger O'Neill (PRO) at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it |
