Galway City Councillor Declan McDonnell has called on the city manager, Joe MacGrath to give a report at the next council meeting on the amenity, infrastructure and education projects in the pipeline for the Doughiska area.

Cllr McDonnell has also insisted that the city manager give a timescale for the start date and completion of all these proposed projects.

"I am particularly concerned about when the new roadworks are beginning," said Cllr McDonnell.

"I am asking the city manager to let the councillors know if the contractors will be on site next month, what portion of the works will be carried out in 2008 and what is the date for final completion of the road, cycle lanes, footpaths and public lighting.

"There have been too many broken promises and this area has been neglected by officials for long enough," he said.

Cllr McDonnell is also asking for a report on the amenity works and the development of the community centre, which is on 22 acres adjacent to the Tur Uisce Estate. He is also seeking information on the progress of the school sites for new primary and secondary schools in the area.

"These proposals are a year in progress and it's time we got some answers," said the PD councillor.

"I have put down a motion to Galway City Council asking for a full update on these three issues, which I hope will be presented at the March meeting of Galway City Council," he concluded.
