Rehab is now taking nominations for Galway’s People of the Year awards, which will take place in October this year.
Area organiser Ollie Robinson said last year’s awards captured the imagination of the Galway public. There were a record number of entries received and this further demonstrated the dedication commitment and achievements of all the winners, he felt. “The awards give public recognition to people who through their personal leadership, participation, courage or achievement have made an outstanding contribution to the community or the betterment of the lives of people in their own areas.”
Some of last year’s winners included Alan Kerins for his work in Zambia, Frank Downes for his work for the Irish Guide Dogs and Noreen Ronaldson for her voluntary work in the town Archdeacon. The closing date for nominations is Friday 28 September. The selected nominees will be presented with their awards at a glittering (black tie) gala banquet and presentation in the Clayton Hotel in October.
In addition to the ten Galway People of the year Awards, over the past four years the organisers have introduced a special merit award for groups and it was so well received that a similar award will be presented again this year. There will also be a new award this year, details of which will be announced next week.
Nomination forms or further information is available from Ollie Robinson on 091-756653 or type out your nomination giving the reason for the nomination with your own name and address and phone number and post it to Galway People of the Year Awards, Rehab, Unit 5, Liosbán Business Park, Tuam Road Galway.
