Councillor Donal Lyons has this week made representations to Kevin Swift, Acting Director of Services at Galway City Council requesting the provision of extra litter-bins for key areas on the Promenade and Salthill. "As a regular walker on the Prom, I have received numerous representations regarding the lack of litter bins at key areas along the Promenade. " "The lack of bins was borne out with the recent spell of good weather, which attracted large numbers to the seaside resort. Prom users could see at first hand rubbish being piled up beside existing bins which were unable to cope with refuse volumes. I have requested that the additional bins should be provided at key areas, which would go some way in addressing the present problem and would avoid people having to place rubbish alongside existing bins," he said. He has also requested more frequent bin collections along the Promenade and Grattan Road areas, in time for the Volvo Ocean Race stopover. |
