The Galway City Museum will launch an Activity Sheet this Saturday 3 May, in association with mykidstime.ie. The sheet, which will be available to all children on entry to the Museum, will pose questions such as: Whose statue do you see when you enter? What stone animals do you see? And, what are the names of the big silver objects near the stairs? Designed by two local children in association with the Galway-based website for parents, www.mykidstime.ie, this activity sheet will give children an opportunity to draw their favourite object, to count the many medals on show, and to match facts with their exhibits. The activity sheet will be officially launched this Saturday at 12pm in the Museum and will be free to children entering the museum from then on. The sheet is bilingual with a full English and Irish version to follow. And, there will be a different type of activity at Galway City Museum on Friday, 2 May, when butter maker Dawn Gawley demonstrates the traditional way of making butter and hear about some of the associated folklore. In Irish tradition, a visitor to a house in which butter was being made was expected to take a turn at churning the butter. It was considered particularly unlucky for the household if the visitor did not churn the butter, so every visitor to the museum event will have to take their turn at the churn. The event takes place at 2pm. Admission is free but booking is essential. |
