Brown Thomas stores across the country, including the Galway store, have announced that they will be 'Fur Free' from February. They now join the likes of other leading department stores Clery's, Debenhams, Marks and Spencer, Dunnes Stores, Next, Top Shop and Karen Millen in the crusade against animal cruelty. The Galway SPCA are said to be delighted with the announcement that the Brown Thomas stores are now going fur free. "Thank you to Brown Thomas for doing the right thing when next you are in there. We also say a big thank you to ARAN who have been campaigning on our behalf and all the animals who are tortured and end up being skinned alive for their fur for taking this on board," said a spokesperson for the group. "This decision to initiate a no-fur policy has been taken in consideration of all issues surrounding animal welfare. To date the Brown Thomas Group has operated a strict policy of stocking only items made from skins of animals in the food chain. Stephen Sealey, the Brown Thomas Group Buying Director for Fashions and Accessories, has already communicated this policy to all suppliers to Brown Thomas and BT2 stores," said a spokesperson for Brown Thomas. |
